UNM Business Students Help New Mexico Recover from Covid Challenge - Albuquerque

This fall, the UNM Anderson School of Management’s Innovation Group is offering to help New Mexico’s businesses respond to the management challenges of the new Covid-19 low-touch economy, by connecting local businesses to student teams to assist with the following business challenges:

  • Analyzing firms’ financial performance and plan
  • Commercializing technology products and services
  • Improving project management processes and plans
  • Managing technology-related operations  
  • Writing or revising business plans

The Innovation Group is housed in the Finance, International and Innovation (FII) department at the Anderson School of Management comprised of the UNM Management of Technology program, the Small Business Institute, the MS-ETM joint program with the UNM Engineering school, and the Technology Entrepreneurship Project Management effort. 

For over 20 years, the Innovation Group has hosted nearly 70 student teams each year to support local businesses to help them attract venture funding, develop effective management organizations, and hire high performance teams, and, as a results, create new jobs and increase personal income for New Mexicans.   Innovation Group teams have earned numerous awards including New Mexico Small Business Assistance program’s “Case of the Year” honors, top awards in the national SBI Project of the Year competition, and international recognition from the MANCEF organization.  The Innovation Group has also partnered with numerous local organizations including the New Mexico Small Business Assistance program, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories; the New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership; E3; The Albuquerque Community Foundation; Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank; the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce; the New Mexico Economic Development Department; and We Connect New Mexico.
