DANNY W. JARRETT is the Office Managing Principal of the Albuquerque, New Mexico office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Mr. Jarrett is a New Mexico native and graduate of the University of the University of New Mexico School of Law where he served as a staff editor of The New Mexico Law Review. He received a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Mexico and was the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship.

 

Mr. Jarrett’s legal practice focuses on counseling and representing employers, government entities and Native American tribal organizations regarding labor and employment disputes. He has been named SouthwestSuperLawyerevery year since 2009 and has been ranked in Chambers and Partners USA Guide to Lawyers every year since 2010. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America and is AV Rated (Preeminent) by Martindale-Hubbell. He has been certified as a specialist in labor and employment law by the New Mexico Supreme Court’s Board of Legal Specialization since August of 2008. He is a member of several practice committees within the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment section, and serves as a contributing national treatises on the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. He also serves as a steering committee member and is the former chair of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law, Division 6 (workforce management  and human resources). Mr. Jarrett previously served as an elected board member and as Chair of the State Bar’s Employment and Labor Section, its Indian Law Section and on the Board of Editors for the New Mexico Bar Bulletin from 2009-2012.

 

Mr. Jarrett is a member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and the former chair of the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Jarrett is also a member of the UNM School of Law Alumni Board. He is a nationally certified youth football coach and youth baseball umpire and served for many years as Board Secretary, Director and as counsel for the New Mexico Young America Football League.

 

Marijuana Trends Toward the Mainstream

With changing times come changing views - the legalization of marijuana being a hot topic today, New Mexico is not behind in addressing the substance in its laws. The presentation titled “Marijuana Trends Toward the Mainstream” will encompass the legal status of marijuana within the state, and what type of accommodations, if any, employers need to meet. The presentation will also highlight drug policy language and drug testing issues that need to be addressed by employers as well as employees. Finally, the presentation will provide major take-aways that should be considered in light of the trend marijuana is taking within the nation.
