UNM McKinnon Center for Mgmt., Mktg. Lab (Rm 2010)
Albuquerque, NM 87106
In today’s rapidly-evolving media landscape, social media has become a fundamental tool for small businesses looking to efficiently and effectively connect with existing and potential customers.
The primary focus of this workshop will be on understanding alternative social media platforms, defining a social media voice on these platforms, engaging with your audience, managing content and tracking the effectiveness of your social media efforts. You are highly encouraged to bring a laptop to the workshop as you will have the opportunity to explore these topics through hands-on activities, including setting up business profiles on each network.
Participants should have a basic understanding of the most widely used social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but experience using social media for business purposes is not required.
Presenter John Benavidez is a Principal Lecturer in Marketing at The University of New Mexico (UNM) Anderson School of Management. He holds an MBA and a BBA, both with a concentration in marketing, from UNM. John teaches undergraduate courses in marketing management, digital marketing, and social media marketing. Benavidez was presented with the 2010 Distinguished Professor Award by The Wall Street Journal, and he is a recipient of the 2004 UNM Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. Benavidez is currently director of the Rick and Debbie Johnson Marketing Lab and mentors undergraduate students on experiential learning projects associated with the lab. In 2013, he was named as one of the “Top 100 Marketing Professors on Twitter” by Social Media Marketing Magazine.
