Registration Opens for Economic Development Town Hall
New Mexico First, a leading nonprofit public policy organization, announced that its 2016 statewide town hall will Focus on Economic Security and Vitality for New Mexico. New Mexico First is calling on citizens to help develop a concrete, actionable platform of policy recommendations for policymakers and other leaders. The town hall will be held in Albuquerque May 19-20.
â€œFor many, a vibrant economy is perhaps the most sought after policy goal for our state,â€ said Heather Balas, New Mexico Firstâ€™s President and Executive Director. â€œWith this policy goal in mind, we hope citizens will create recommendations that call on federal, state, and local policymakers as well as private sector leaders to create better economic conditions for New Mexico.â€
Town hall participants will focus on key issues that include:
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Our changing workforce, including opportunities for engaging "millennials" in the new economy
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Industry diversification & new business recruitment
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Advancing a friendly business climate and a culture of entrepreneurship
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â New opportunities for rural and tribal development
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Economic stability for low and middle income families, including the role of the nonprofit sector on the state's economy
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â The role of government in the economy, including government dollars and opportunities for public-private partnerships
The bulk of the town hall is comprised of small group discussions among participants who care about economic security and vitality for New Mexico and want to promote solutions that will lead to progress. All community members from every region of the state are welcome.Â
The recommendations will be presented to federal, state, and local policymakers as well as private sector leaders and communities throughout New Mexico.Â
